DIR®/Floortime Mentoring (DIR 201 · DIR 202 · DIR 203)
Integrating Discipline-Specific Goals into a Transdisciplinary Framework
DIR®/Floortime is not something you “add on” to your therapy.
It is a way of understanding development, learning, and relationships that reshapes how all goals are held and delivered.
Our DIR® mentoring supports clinicians to apply the model with depth, flexibility, and clinical integrity.

About Your DIR® Mentor
Naomi Wong
MSc Speech & Hearing Sciences | Clinical Educator | International Trainer
Naomi Wong is an international DIR® Floortime trainer and speaker who actively teaches DIR® courses in Singapore and mentors clinicians and educators across Asia, including ongoing work in China.
Having guided many clinicians through DIR® 101, 201, 202, and 203, Naomi brings deep insight into the conceptual shifts required to move from discipline-led goals toward a truly transdisciplinary DIR® approach.
Her teaching focuses on helping clinicians think developmentally, rather than apply Floortime mechanically.
What You May Be Navigating
You may be asking:
• How do I hold speech, OT, or academic goals within a DIR® framework?
• How do my observations actually map onto FEDCs?
• Am I “doing Floortime,” or just playing?
• How do I prioritise regulation, engagement, and intentionality in complex cases?
• How do I explain my clinical decisions clearly—to families, teams, or supervisors?
These are the right questions.
How DIR® Mentoring Supports You
Our mentoring focuses on deepening understanding and strengthening clinical reasoning in everyday practice.
Integrating Discipline-Specific Goals
Embedding speech, language, executive functioning, motor, or learning goals within a transdisciplinary, relationship-based approach.
Understanding FEDCs in Practice
Learning how real clinical observations—affect, attention, regulation, play, language, and motor planning—fit meaningfully into FEDC ratings and the individual profile, and how FEDCs and individual differences interact with one another.
Strengthening Clinical Reasoning
Moving beyond surface-level observations to understand your client’s developmental agenda and readiness.
Linking Individual Differences to Intervention
Applying sensory, motor, and regulatory profiles to guide interaction, making it easier to be with the child.
Supporting Intentionality Across Capacities
Understanding how intentional communication and problem-solving evolve across Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities.
What To Expect
DIR® mentoring sessions are reflective and developmental. You may experience:
• Video reflection and case discussion
• Support with FEDC formulation
• Clarity in prioritising goals without losing developmental coherence
• Increased confidence articulating your DIR® clinical thinking
This mentoring supports both course requirements and long-term clinical growth.
Our Reassuring Reminder
You do not need to “do everything DIR®.”
You need to understand development deeply — and respond intentionally.
DIR® mentoring is about becoming a more thoughtful, grounded clinician — not a perfect one.
Frequently Asked Questions
About DIR®/Floortime Mentoring (DIR 201 · DIR 202 · DIR 203)
Who is this DIR®/Floortime mentoring for?
This mentoring is for clinicians who have completed DIR® 101 and are moving through, or preparing for, DIR® 201, 202, or 203, and who want to apply the model with greater depth and coherence in real practice.
Do I need to be currently enrolled in DIR® 201–203 to start mentoring?
Not necessarily. Mentoring can support you before, during, or after DIR® coursework, depending on where you are in your learning journey.
Is this mentoring only about meeting course requirements?
No. While mentoring can support DIR® course requirements, the primary focus is on clinical thinking, integration, and long-term development as a practitioner.
Will this mentoring tell me if I am “doing Floortime correctly”?
The focus is not on correctness or compliance. Mentoring supports you to think developmentally, understand the child’s agenda, and make intentional clinical decisions.
Can I bring my own cases and videos?
Yes. Mentoring is grounded in your real cases, often using video reflection to support FEDC formulation, prioritisation, and clinical reasoning.
How does this help with FEDC ratings and profiles?
Mentoring supports you in linking real observations to FEDCs, understanding how capacities interact, and using profiles to guide intervention — not just to complete paperwork.
I work in a multidisciplinary setting. Will this be relevant?
Yes. This mentoring is especially helpful for clinicians working in transdisciplinary teams, supporting integration of speech, OT, learning, and behavioural goals within a DIR® framework.
Is this suitable if I feel unsure or “stuck” in my DIR® work?
Absolutely. Feeling unsure often reflects conceptual growth, not failure. Mentoring offers a space to think, reflect, and regain clarity.
Is this only for paediatric clinicians?
DIR® mentoring primarily supports clinicians working with children and families, though the emphasis on developmental thinking and relational work is broadly applicable.
What changes do clinicians often notice over time?
Clinicians often report greater clarity in prioritisation, stronger confidence explaining their decisions, and a more grounded sense of intentionality in their Floortime work.
Think Developmentally. Practise Intentionally.
DIR®/Floortime mentoring offers a space to slow down, integrate what you know, and apply the model with confidence and coherence.
Whether you’re navigating DIR® 201, 202, or 203 — or seeking deeper clarity in your DIR® practice — support is available.
